None of the drivers seem to notice your standing next to them with a camera, interesting. It’s a study in their level of concentration before the race, or you just fit in exceptionally well with the grid scene. These are great. I went to Watkins Glen every october through the seventies, and to Montreal occasionally in the eighties.

I was there!! I was a pit marshal on the end of the pit road..Jackie Stewart won the race.. Jacky Ickx came in second , and ran out of fuel, as he crossed the line..
I ran down with another marshal and helped him out of his car.
I have seen the news clip of this on TV but wonder where it is now. Great time in motor racing real drivers and cars. not just computors and money…Bob Reeves
No.. your film doesn’t get close enogh. We were the last two people on the exit ramp, and someones head gets in the way.
I used to drive one of the recovery trucks as well for that season suplied by H A Saunders Ltd. in Northampton. I worked for the firm. It was an old yellow Austin truck which looked like a chariot with a gib on the back ….Bert Lampkin was in charge in those days in the paddock ….
oh happy days. a different world
F1 must have been much more interesting back then, but it was also much more dangerous. We’ve gone through 15 years without a fatal F1 crash, although there have been a few near misses like Häkkinen’s crash in Adelaide, when in the 60′s and 70′s it was sort of? an annual thing… Probably goes to show how brave (or stupid?) drivers used to be. What’s weird is that after some quick research, Imola 1994 is the only GP weekend that took two drivers! Some crashes have killed marshals though…
You are correct that there is no sound. I apologise for recording projector noise: you’re dealing with a learning amateur here (I know how to do it now). I hope the projector noise did not spoil your enjoyment.
Thanks to all for so many positive comments.

The most interesting era in F1, back when it really was racing and not how much time and money you spent on the computer’s software and in the windtunnel.
F1 may be faster these days but it’s not as interesting, for my money.
Fantastic footage! Priceless! A real gem! Many many thanx for giving everyone the privilege of being able to view this footage. Superb quality! Take it it was recorded onto 16mm camera? Some asks how did you get so close to the drivers, did you have a vip pass? In those days you could blag, bribe or hustle your way onto the pit road. I did it very successfully during the 1975 British GP! Great days!
Of that grid 8 are now dead.Graham Hill ( killed in air crash) Pedro Rodriguez ( his brother Ricardo also died racing)Jo Siffert( killed in Brands Hatch) Bruce McLaren ( killed testing in Goodwood) Jochen Rindt ( Killed in Monza) Piers Courage , Denny Hulme ( Heart attack saloon car racing) Jo Bonnier. Motor Racing was a Deadly Occupation in 1969.Sir Jackie Stewart is A LEGEND( seen in a Matra MS80)
Infamous on-off 4WD McLaren is seen at 2:20

How come you’re so close up with your camera to the racing drivers? Did you have a special/VIP pass?
